#7 LSU Shuts Down #21 Mississippi State 37-17

For the second straight week Zach Mettenberger looked like an all-SEC quarterback as he passed for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jeremy Hill ran for 48 yards on 15 carries.  The bigger story emerging from tigertown is the overall LSU offensive success which had 119 yards rushing, 273 yards passing, and 392 total yards.

The tigers who played in their fifth-straight game against a ranked opponent held the Mississippi State passing attack and Tyler Russell to just 304 yards passing and only 47 yards rushing.  The bulldogs were only succeslful on 3 of 10 3rd down conversions.

The tigers defeated the bulldogs for the 13th straight season and won at home for the 11th straight time.  Despite the win LSU fell to #8 in both the USA Today and AP polls although they remained ranked 7th in the BCS rankings.

The tigers are now 8-2 and 4-2 in the SEC.  Les Miles on his birthday Saturday, tied Bernie Moore for the second most victories in school history with 83.  LSU next faces Ole Miss at 2:30 on Saturday on ESPN.
