LSU Basketball Faces its First Road Test Against a Fierce Boise State Team on Friday 8:00
Johnny Jones 6-0 tigers will take to the road to face a very challenging opponent in the Boise State Broncos. Even more challenging is that they will be on the road for the first time this season when they visit the broncos (6-2) in Boise, Idaho at their home court in the Taco Bell Arena.
Junior forward Shavon Coleman leads LSU in scoring with 15.8 points a game, sophomore forward Johnny O’Bryant III leads the team in rebounding with 9 rebounds a game, and sophomore guard Anthony Hickey is the assist leader in averaging 5.2 assists a game although he is suspended indefinitely and hopes center around junior Andre Stringer being his replacement again at the point guard position. Stringer was successful as a replacement for Hickey in scoring 18 points including 4 three pointers and 4 assists.
The broncos are coming off a 76-55 loss at Utah Wednesday night which was only their second loss of the season. Boise State is led in scoring and assists by sophomore Derrick Marks who averages 18.6 points per game and has an average of 3.4 assists per game. Sophomore Anthony Drmic who plays both guard and forward leads in rebounds with 5 per game and also scores 14.3 points per game. The broncos signature win came on November 28 when they travelled to #11 Creighton and came out victorious 83-70. Boise State also fell only 4 points short of defeating #15 Michigan State in East Lansing.
This will be perhaps the most difficult team LSU has seen up to this point and the fact that they are on the road lends to the game being a serious measure of where the 2012 team stands at this point and maybe will give an idea of how close the tigers are in their preparation for SEC competition.
