Tiger Football Coaches to make a late push for several big recruits

Word is that rivals 5* and Dutchtown safety Landon Collins was sited on the LSU campus on Wednesday.  Not to mention he is said to have spent much time in the LSU football office.  It seems as if the tiger coaches are going all out for the state’s top prospect.  The coaches especially Brick Haley have been in contact with Louisiana’s 2nd rated prospect Denzel Devall from Bastrop who is a 4* player according to rivals.  The top 2 ranked players are both currently commited to Alabama.  It will be tough but the tiger coaches are trying feverishly to flip the two.

Les Miles and Steve Kragthorpe are trying very hard to convince Hueytown, Alabama 5* quarterback Jameis Winston that LSU is the best home for him.  Jameis is currently commited to Florida State.  Miles and Kragthorpe are said to be planning an in home visit with Jameis and his family very soon.

Also 3* safety Corey Thompson who is currently commited to Texas A&M and 4* outside linebacker Kwon Alexander are considered heavy LSU leans at this point.

If LSU is able to secure a signing day signature from either Collins, Devall, or  Winston combined with both Alexander and Thompson it could be huge for the future and for the tiger’s 2012 recruiting class ranking.

LSU Basketball falls at #16 Mississippi State 76-71

(12-8, 2-4 SEC)                       (17-4, 4-2 SEC)

Another SEC road trip meant another loss as the tigers are now 0-4 on the road in conference.  LSU played very well and even had a chance with only seconds remaining in the contest.  The tigers must learn how to win on the road to have a chance at the NCAA tourney no matter what they do at home.  #16 Mississippi State proved to be too much at home in Humphrey Coliseum Wednesday night.

Anthony Hickey led the tigers with 16 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals, and  6 assists.  The bulldogs were led by junior forward Arnett Moultrie who had a huge night with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 1 steal.

2012 Recruiting not finished yet!

The tigers will sign 25 players for the 2012 class.  With linebacker Lorenzo Phillips commitment this weekend and Jeremy Hill in school now the tigers only have about 4 scholarships to give.  However the tigers are in good shape with Denton, Tx defensive tackle Mario Edwards who is currently a Florida State commitment and is on campus this weekend.  Cordarrelle Patterson is another that is on campus this weekend and is the #1 rated juco wide reciever that is being highly touted throughout the southeast.

A possible quarterback in this years class could come from Oxford, MS quarterback Jeremy Liggins or from highly rated Jameis Winston of Hueytown, AL.

The tigers have two huge recruiting weekends before February 1st National Signing Day.

Tiger Basketball falls again on the road to #14 Florida

(12-7, 2-3 SEC)                 (15-4, 3-1 SEC)

The tiger’s SEC road loss streak continued as the tigers fell yet again and are now 0-3 away from the Pmac.  A high scoring gator team used their hostile crowd and constant pressure to subdue the tigers.  The tiger defense did not do near enough to give themselves a shot in this one.  The contest was more of a shootout which did not fair well for LSU.

Justin Hamilton again led the tigers with 27 points and 8 rebounds while junior forward Erik Murphy finished with 15 points and 3 rebounds for the gators.

LSU 2012 Recruiting looks to finish strong!

Despite the recent negativity which spurred from LSU’s loss Jan. 9 the future looks bright.  The tigers could be the preseason #1 team in the polls next season but will surely be preseason top 5 come September.  Off course one of the best ways to get a good idea on what the future holds is to look at the tigers recruiting.

The tigers will sign 25 players for the 2012 recruiting class.  Everyone now knows about the recent losses of highly touted recruits safety Landon Collins,  offensive lineman Patrick Miller, and quarterback Gunner Kiel that will hurt the tigers recruiting rankings drastically but  not so fast my friend!

LSU now has 19 commitments and are ranked #17 in Rivals recruiting rankings however they are looking to move up the rankings with their final 6 commitments and maybe another top 10 national recruiting ranking.  They are already full of 4 and 3 star talent in 18 of their 19 current commitments.  Their are many top name prospects still available.  The tigers are expected to get commitments from 4* linebackers Kwon Alexander and Lorenzo Phillips.  They are in a battle with Florida State for 5* defensive end Mario Edwards out of Denton, Texas.  Some other possibles to fill the final spots are juco wide reciever Cordarrelle Patterson, quarterback Jeremy Liggins, quarterback Jameis Winston, and defensive back Corey Thompson.  Running back Jeremy Hill who was ranked as a 4 star when he came out last year is now in school for the tigers.  Jeremy Hill will be on campus when the tigers start spring practice and will add a potent weapon to an already deep LSU running back corp.
