LSU Football Recruiting: Tiger Coaches Already Working Hard for the Class of 2013
The tiger coaching staff has already secured 4 commitments from Louisiana juniors who either attended the ” Boys from the Boot” event or from seperate junior days all hosted by LSU football coaches. 5-foot-9 cornerback Jeryl Brazil who comes in weighing 176 pounds with 4.35 speed was the first to commit to the tigers back on July 20, 2011. The more recent commitments were 6-foot-1, 185 pound wide receiver Chuck Baker and 5-foot-10, 170 pound wide receiver Tredavious White who both commited to the tigers on February 4th. The 6-foot-3 175 pound safety Jeremy Cutrer is your 4th and latest commitment.
Time will tell whether or not some of these commitments will be the “Cream of the crop” in the state as the year progresses. Although it is good to see that the coaches were pleased with their camp performances and are scooping up the Louisiana talent early.
Home Court Proves to be an Advantage as the Tigers down the Razorbacks 71-65
(13-9, 3-5 SEC) (16-7, 4-4 SEC)
It seemed as if once the first 7 minutes were gone the tigers found an obvious confidence among them on their own home court. Numerous times down the court they made the extra pass, stepped in for the steal, pulled down the rebound, and took advantage of Arkansas miscues.
The razorbacks did do a very good job down the stretch to keep the game close. The tiger starters all needed to have strong games to complete the victory. Perhaps Eddie Ludwig’s play of the bench was most impressive. He finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Johnny O’Bryant provided a key presence on both offense and defense as well. Justin Hamilton had a solid game and led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Mardracus Wade led Arkansas with 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Tigers host the Hogs in the PMAC Saturday 12:45 ESPN 3
(12-9, 2-5 SEC) (16-6, 4-3 SEC)
Make no mistake this is a must win for the tigers tomorow if they want to be more than an afterthought in the SEC West race. LSU is coming off a 24 point loss to the much more talented Kentucky Wildcats. The tigers will now meet a more compareable opponent in the Arkansas razorbacks who beat the tigers 69-60 in Fayetteville on Jan. 14.
The recent return of Johny O’bryant will be huge as the tigers look to return the favor at home. Arkansas is led by junior forward Marshawn Powell who is averaging almost 20 points per game. The tigers must contain him and get a much needed home court victory.
Tiger Football Signs a Solid Class of 22 New Tigers!
The Tigers welcomed 24 new signees today. The unfortunate surprise of the day was that 4* linebacker Torshiro Davis a long time tiger commitment decided to sign with Texas. LSU did sign 4* lineback Kwon Alexander from the state of Alabama. Kwon was perhaps the nation’s best outside linebacker going into this year but was injured. A huge get for the tigers and a bright spot on signing day.
The linebacker position is definitely a position that looks to improve after signing 5 new tiger linebackers for the fall. The tigers got deeper and perhaps more skilled at many positions today. The class however lacks the big name recruit that fans are used to being excited about this time of year.
LSU football finished 7th, 12th, 14th, and 16th respectively in Scout, ESPN, 247 Sports, and Rivals recruiting rankings.
LSU Football Recruiting Outlook on the Eve of National Signing Day
With the recent commitments of Mississippi duel threat quarterback Jeremy Liggins and Texas defensive back Corey Thompson the tigers have 23 commitments including running back Jeremy Hill who is already in school. Look for the tigers to finish with 4* linebacker Kwon Alexander and defensive back Trae Elston.
As far as signing day surprises wide reciever Corradelle Patterson is still a possibility but he is much more likely to sign with the Georgia bulldogs.
