Tigers Escape Fayetteville with a Series Victory 5-3 on Sunday!

It took 10 innings to decide the series on Sunday but the tiger outlasted the razorbacks with a 5-3 victory.  LSU closer Chris Cotton closed the door on Arkansas in front of a packed crowd at Baum Stadium. Sean McMullen had a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning that turned out to be the winning run.  LSU improved to 34-3,13-2 SEC while Arkansas fell to 25-12,9-6 SEC.

Arkansas right-hander Ryne Stanek kept the tiger bats silent for the first 6.2 innings as the razorbacks evened the series heading into the series finale today at 1:00.  Razorback catcher Jake Wise drove in four runs to lead the host team.

LSU still leads Arkansas by three games in the SEC West.  Tiger sophomore Cody Glenn (5-1) will get the start against Arkansas senior Randall Fant (2-1).

Ryan Eades record fell to 7-1 as he suffered his first loss of the season.

The LSU (33-2, 12-1 SEC) baseball team got an all important 6-2 game 1 victory Friday night in Baum Stadium, Arkansas falls to 24-11, 8-5  in the conference.  The tigers 33-2 record marks their best start in history.

Junior right-hander Ryan Eades will start game 2 on Saturday against junior right-hander Ryne Staneck .  Sophomore lefty Cody Glenn is expected to start the game 3 finale against Arkansas senior lefty Randall Fant.

The razorbacks have the top ERA (1.56) in the country so Saturday and Sunday’s pitching battle will be interesting.  It was very important that the tigers got the game 1 win on the road.

 

#1 Ranked LSU Faces Southern in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic; Tuesday night 7:00 Cox Sports

The tigers (30-2) were voted #1 by Collegiate Baseball after this weekend’s sweep over the #7 ranked Kentucky wildcats.  The 10th annual Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic will take place at Zephyr field in Metairie.  The tigers will take on the Southern jaguars (12-12).  The game is a makeup of the original between LSU and Southern Mississippi which was rained out last Tuesday.

Junior right-hander Kurt McCune (4.04 ERA) will take the hill for LSU.  Southern will counter with freshman right-hander Camilio Godoy (0-2, 7.11 ERA)
