The largest threat that Alabama presents is its offensive line and RB Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, and Jalston Fowler.  LSU will attempt to slow down the Tide’s rushing attack without having to stack the box.  While the Tide has been untouchable thus far,  Lsu will present the toughest test to date. The Tigers will try to slow down the rushing attack without loading the box but if they have to bring extra help they will. They may be able to hold up because of the depth on the Tiger defensive line but also I believe that the secondary is good enough to guard receivers one on one from time to time.  Gap control and the ability to cut off running lanes will be critical as well.

I don’t think either team is going to be able to move the ball consistently because both defenses are among the top in the country and loaded with NFL talent.  I do however like that LSU has 2 senior options vs Alabama’s young first year QB.

The LSU Defense has been a machine at forcing turnovers so far this year and with Mathieu back I think that will continue especially if Alabama’s young QB has to put the ball in the air more than he is used to.  Alabama’s defense will not allow the Tigers to be consistent and lots could hinge on whether Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson can force the defense to respect LSU’s passing game.  I look for the continued success of Brad Wing to affect field position and force Alabama to make long drives in order to score.

If there are turnovers in this game I suspect that LSU will be the benefactor more often then Alabama because of the Tiger’s higher turnover numbers so far this season.  Brad Wing, Drew Alleman, and the kick coverage teams need to perform similiar to what they have done all year in order to take Alabama out of their comfort zone of pounding Trent Richardson .

The home team has not done especially well in this series

Tigers-24

Tide-20
