LSU Basketball Wins 58-54 Over Texas A&M Wednesday Night
The tiger basketball team improved to 10-6, 1-4 SEC with their first SEC victory of the season by defeating Texas A&M 58-54. The aggies fall to 12-6, 2-3 SEC with the loss.
Johnny O’Bryant had another great night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Shavon Coleman led the team with 17 points. 10 of which came in the second half. Anthony Hickey had 10 points and 8 steals.
The tigers and the aggies were locked in a tie with the score at 50 to 50 with only 2:24 left on the clock. The tigers then took the lead on a Shavon Coleman lay-up. After LSU forced a Texas A&M turnover, Coleman made another lay-up on a feed from Anthony Hickey to go up for good with just 1:04 remaining. The aggies got as close as 56-54 but Andre Stringer drained two free throws in the final seconds to close it out 58-54 tigers.
LSU Basketball Hosts South Carolina at 7:00 ESPN3
LSU (9-4,0-2 SEC) will take on South Carolina (10-5, 0-2 SEC) in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Wednesday night. The tigers will look to overcome the poor shooting which hampered them against Auburn and Florida. LSU shot just 34.8 percent in its first two games. According to LSU coach Johnny Jones the gamecocks are a very aggressive and physical team.
Junior forward Shavon Coleman leads the tigers with 13.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Andre Stringer, Anthony Hickey, and Johnny O’Bryant III all average over 10 points a game. Johnny O’Bryant and Shavon Coleman have the most rebounds with 7.3 and 8.4 respectively.
LSU Men’s Basketball Falls to #11 Florida 74-52 Saturday
Anthony Hickey scored 15 points in the second half for the tigers but they still fell to the gators at the Pmac Saturday. The loss drops LSU to 9-4.0-2 SEC and Florida moves to 12-2,2-0 SEC.
Anthony Hickey also had 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block as the tigers once again start the SEC slate on a down note.
Florida was led by Kenny Boynton with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
LSU will face South Carolina Wednesday at 7:00 from the Pete Maravich Center.
LSU Basketball Plays Host to #11 Florida at 3:05 Saturday ESPNU
The LSU basketball team will open its home SEC slate with the #11 ranked Florida gators. A tough test awaits as the nationally ranked gators come into the Pmac with an 11-2 record including a 1-0 SEC record. Florida won their SEC opener over the Georgia Bulldogs 77-44 Wednesday night.
The gators are led by senior guard Kenny Boynton who averages 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior center Patric Young leads Florida in rebounds per game with 6.3 and also scores 10.8 points per game. Junior guard Scottie Wilbekin leads in assists with 4.8 assists, 8.2 points per game, and 2.6 rebounds per game.
9-2 LSU Tigers Open SEC Play at Auburn on Wednesday 8:00 ESPN3
LSU won 79-63 against Bethune-Cookman Saturday to end the early pre conference season with a 9-2 mark. The competition will get much more competitive as an 18 game SEC schedule lies ahead for the young tigers. LSU will start South Eastern Conference play Wednesday night at Auburn.
Against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, senior guard Charles Carmouche led the tigers with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Junior forward Shavon Coleman finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Senior center Andrew Del Piero had 10 points and 3 rebounds.
