#7 LSU vs Ole Miss Saturday 2:30 CBS

The 2012 Tiger football team is 8-2 with 2 weeks remaining in the regular season.  To win their final two games both in which they will be heavily favored, would do a great deal to enhance the quality of the tiger’s bowl chances.  The final home game of the season will be against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Ole Miss is currently ranked fifth in the SEC west standings and have a record of 5-5.  Sophomore quarterback Bo Wallace has thrown for 2,239 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.  Junior running back Jeff Scott leads the rebel running game with 150 attempts for 680 yards, and 6 touchdowns while Bo Wallace, Randall Mackey, Barry Brunetti, and I’tavius Mathers have significant rushing yards as well.  Sophomore wide receiver Donte Moncrief may be the most dangerous weapon the LSU secondary has to defend this week and has 47 receptions for 614 yards, and 5 touchdowns.

#7 LSU Shuts Down #21 Mississippi State 37-17

For the second straight week Zach Mettenberger looked like an all-SEC quarterback as he passed for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jeremy Hill ran for 48 yards on 15 carries.  The bigger story emerging from tigertown is the overall LSU offensive success which had 119 yards rushing, 273 yards passing, and 392 total yards.

The tigers who played in their fifth-straight game against a ranked opponent held the Mississippi State passing attack and Tyler Russell to just 304 yards passing and only 47 yards rushing.  The bulldogs were only succeslful on 3 of 10 3rd down conversions.

#7 LSU Hosts #21 Mississippi State

How does LSU react after the last minute loss to #1 Alabama a week ago.  How does Mississippi State react coming off a loss to Texas A&M.  Both teams are trying to avoid back to back losses although both teams were not favored a week ago.

The tigers at least have to be excited about last weeks offensive output where Zach Mettenberger had his biggest game of the season so far throwing for 298 yards in the loss.  Jarvis Landry had 76 yards receiving and Jeremy Hill had 107 yards rushing.

Mississippi State in my opinion has benefited because of a less than stellar schedule  including road games against only lower tier competition in Kentucky and Troy.  They did play Alabama on the road but were dominated 38-7.  I look for something similar in Baton Rouge but expect the game to be closer because the tigers could have a slight letdown because of the heartbreaking loss last week.

#7 LSU Must Turn Their Attention to #21 Mississippi State

After a heartbreaking loss to #1 Alabama last week let us all remember that the tigers are 7-2 and will be heavily favored in their remaining contests two of which are in the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium.  Their only road trip remaining is at Arkansas.  LSU is still in good position to play in a major bowl game come January.  The sugar bowl, cotton bowl, and capital one bowl are the most likely especially if the tigers can successfully overcome their final 3 opponents.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are an intresting opponent for LSU a week after a tough loss at home.  The bulldogs are coming of a 38-13 loss at the hands of Texas A&M.  Do the tigers play well in order to get last week’s loss out of their minds or do they come out flat?

Its Saturday Night in Death Valley! #5 LSU vs #1 Alabama 7:00 CBS

Gameday will get started early on Saturday morning,  the nations top recruits will be on campus, and a rarely available 7:00 CBS time slot are just a few signs of a huge day on the LSU campus.

The tigers under coach Miles tenure have seemed to play up and down to the competition level of their oppenents.  This week its #1 Alabama.  The tigers will be sky high and their is little doubt  that the tigers will bring their A+ game.  Expect a trench war of epic proportions and a game that will be decided in the second half if not late in the 4th quarter.  Add to that the fact that the tide handed the tigers a BCS national championship game defeat on January 9th that could lend itself to a serious revenge factor going into the game.

The emergence of freshman running back Jeremy Hill and a surprising makeshift LSU offensive line should be cause for Alabama concern.  Although if the tigers are going to stay close to the tide Zach Mettenberger may need to have his most explosive game of the season.  The tiger defense has been nasty and will only need the offense to stay on the field at times and not go “3 and out” often.
